All about North Cascade Dahlias

Our farm focuses on preserving the legacy of Paul Bloomquist Dahlia Varieties, hybridizes new varieties, and grows tubers to offer Dahlias for everyone!

North Cascades Dahlias were cultivated in 2023, although the dream had been planted years before.  Brought together through working together on a potato farm, Thomas and Blake set out to bring the dahlia dream to fruition.  North Cascade Dahlias is located in Lynden, WA under the shadow of Mt. Baker, part of the Cascade Range, the namesake of "North Cascade" in our name .  Our dahlias are grown on a 4 acre plot, under the watchful eye and advice of Paul Bloomquist himself.  Approximately ¼ of our plot is used as a proving grounds for new Bloomquist Seedlings and undisseminated varieties. Currently, we grow approximately 600 of Paul’s ~ 1100 varieties (440 registered with ADS) with a vision of collecting at least one plant of all of Paul’s varieties in the quest to bring Dahlias for everyone!

Thomas Bloomquist:  Before you ask, yes! Thomas is Paul’s son.  After a career in the corporate world, Thomas returned home, and began working on a farm and growing his dad’s dahlias on the side.  In 2023, the timing was right to take this side hobby into a full time endeavor, with the main goal being preserving the heritage and legacy of Paul’s bountiful blooms.  Thomas’ role in the farm is dahlia field management, photography, and he is also learning the art of hybridizing from his dad.

Blake:  Blake is a farmer at heart.  Although he grew up in town, he has always stayed connected to the land through various forms of agriculture.  After graduating college and working and managing a local seed potato farm where he met Thomas, he decided to take the leap and switched to a more glamorous tuber.  Blake is responsible for plant nutrition and irrigation, inventory management, working with WSDA and shipping logistics.
